The Royal Horticultural Society: 1804-2004 A Bicentenary Celebration
THE ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY, the UK's leading gardening charity, celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2004.
Known particularly for its magnificent Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace Flower Shows, the RHS aims to encourage the science, art and practice of horticulture through the provision of advice, education and inspiration.
Featured on this set of Special Stamps are examples of six of the nine types of plant for which the RHS is the official international registrar of cultivar names: clematis; conifers; daffodils; dahlias; delphiniums; dianthus; lilies; orchids and rhododendrons. Each well-loved plant has an important place in the history of British gardening.
