Springtime

Andy Goldsworthy's internationally-renowned sculptures take many forms, but they are all inspired by nature itself. He works almost exclusively with the materials he finds in the outside environment. Leaves, twigs, flowers as well as stones, ice, sand and snow are reordered and restructured by hand to create unique, imaginative works. These sculptures are then made permanent by recording them as photographs which the artist takes himself, and they are presented in large format, often with accompanying texts that form an integral part of the work. In these stamps, Andy has celebrated springtime in a language that is all his own.

First stamp: Dandelions – collected on the way to work – laid around a carefully made hole. Second stamp: Sweet chestnut leaves – held with thorns. Third stamp: Garlic leaves – creased, folded, bent – held to the ground with thorns. Fourth stamp: Hazel leaves – two greens. Fifth stamp: Spring grass – fresh green blades – white stems – laid around a hole.
The order of the stamps is correct at the time of going to press but may be subject to alteration.
