Tropical Marine Fishes
The butterflyfishes are one of the most beautiful and eye-catching among the reef fishes and have more than 80 species in a variety of shapes and colours.
Belonging to the family Chaetodontidae, which means "brush-like teeth", they have a protruding snout with a tiny mouth that allows them to nibble on coral polyps. The butterflyfishes flourish in all tropical seas and even in some temperate seas.
The Eight-banded Butterflyfish, Chaetodon octofasciatus, is beautifully illustrated on this additional stamp to the Tropical Marine Fishes Low Value Definitives. The new stamp carries the indicator, 2nd Local, which denotes the prevailing value for the 2nd weight-step of 40gm.
It has yellow to white body with striking black bands and a black stripe along the top of the snout. These species grow to 12cm in length and is found in tropical marine waters of the Indo-West Pacific.
